Abstract: “Contemporary Virtue Ethics: The Contributions of Modern Confucianism” taught by Huang Yong is settled in Confucian thinking resources to solve some of the dilemmas and challenges of contemporary virtue ethics. Through the interactive interpretation of virtue ethics and Confucianism, the author formed a system that was trapped here. The Confucian virtues theory, namely, “to report directly on the right” in ethical theory, to “rehabilitation” in legal philosophy, to “righteousness about virtue” in righteous theory, to “the perfection of Confucian countries” in political philosophy. All this kind of articles are excellent in the interpretation of Confucian classics and are very rich. However, the author uses virtue ethics to develop the relevant concepts and thoughts in Confucianism to a extreme extent. This speculation can overestimate the value of virtue politics and ignore its shortcomings. In addition, since contemporary virtue ethics is a standard ethics theory made by the academic school’s school-like moral theory, it is difficult to avoid the structural shortcomings inherent in the latter two. In any case, it is still a very interesting task to discuss and emphasize Chinese modern ethics thinking by drawing on the problems and theories of contemporary meta-ethics and standard ethics.

One  Introduction

Thanks to some mechanisms, Teacher Huang Yong’s comments have been one of the more I read in recent years. It is also the same in listening lectures with a choice. Sometimes, almost every discussion that Teacher Huang has to join my favorite level. Furthermore, in the past six or seven years, whether in the old Chinese and Chinese masters’ school or the new Zhongshan major, in the year-round courses established for graduate students, one study period was selected for the original work of Zhongzhe (mostly Mencius and Xun), and the other was selected for the original work of ethics (usually modern British and American ethics, although the course name may not be so). In the last two courses, the last two times, each will choose the latest two articles related to the topics discussed in detail. One is intended to let students know the latest research and development in the academic world, and the other is intended to let students write a good academic essay. I found that whether it is discussing the topic or writing, the essays taught by Huang Yong are excellent choices. My experience, reading works taught by Huang JieIt is always a double victim, on the one hand, it is the clarity of contemporary Eastern (and importantly British and American) ethics theory and cutting-edge problems, and on the other hand, it is the separate commentary on Chinese modern philosophical texts and its ability to contribute to contemporary ethics. In short, it not only increases knowledge, but also enhances the mind.

Huang Yong’s earlier book “Contemporary Virtue Ethics: The Contributions of Modern Confucianism” (Oriental Baohuang.com‘s 2019 edition) contains fourteen major essays in the field of virtue ethics in the past decade (just one is published in 2博官网Before 011), he wrote three editors: the first is “Confucius’ contribution to contemporary virtue ethics”, including four essays; the second is “The Confucianism of Song and Ming dynasties on contemporary virtue ethics”; the second is “The Confucianism of Song and Ming dynasties on contemporary virtue ethics” The contributions are included in five essays; the third editor “Discussing Confucianism’s contributions to contemporary virtues and ethics with time”, including five essays, including Mike Sander, An Jingru, Yang Guorong, Tong Shigong, and Yu Zhenhua. The five teachers have their own ideas in philosophy or ethics, and they are all selected for a while. The first two nine articles are about some dilemmas in contemporary virtue ethics itself or criticisms from other ethics theories, and some problems that Eastern virtue ethics itself cannot respond well, based on the rich resources of Confucianism, or propose better solutions; the third and five articles on the third and the five articles on the time trade agreement are inferior to those in the latter. There are many questions that are answerable.

When Huang Yong commented on the book “Achievement and Formation of Things – The Birth of the World of Meaning” by Professor Yang Guorong, he mentioned three methods of review: one is “speaking according to the story”: Repeat the author’s views without understanding. He believed that this is the main one for a book. The worst work done by the work; the second is “talking about”: as opposed to Zhuangzi and Hui Shi, he believed that this is the best work that can be done for a book; the third is “talking about”: there is no basic disagreement between the judge and the author, and at the same time he is unwilling to argue for the sake of dispute. [1] Huang Yong himself used the last method of Yang Zhuo’s comments. However, as a complete review of the book, and considering the situation where the majority of officials only speak their names and do not study their studies, I think it is still necessary to start a “speaking” yellow book. Of course, this kind of lecture is not an overview of every chapter and every topic of the book. In fact, Huang Zhuo has already outlined the content of each chapter in his “Talks” that has reached nearly 70 pages. Although Huang Zhu is written in a essay, these essays respond to each other, and the views and the essay support each other. Therefore, I will first link some of the main problems and views to give a brief overview based on my overall understanding; Even though I agree with the views and arguments of Huangzhu, and there is no fundamental disagreement, there are still some different views that I dare not agree with. Therefore, I will focus on this (as shown in the title, the important focus is on the Confucian virtues constructed by Huang Yong from ethics to politics.) is suitable for “toward speech”, some of these “toward speech” are not considered “toward speech” in a certain meaning.

2  Comparative ethics of problem orientation

In the discussion written to this book, Huang Yong taught that Confucianism (like Zhu Zi) and Aristotle was a virtuous ethicist who was twice as suitable for fantasy type; however, It is said in the discussion: “The focus of this book is not to prove that Confucian ethics is a virtue ethics, nor to prove that it is a more stringent and pure virtue ethics than the Eastern tradition of virtue ethics, but to demonstrate what modern Confucianism can make for contemporary virtue ethics.”[2] This can be said to be the general Baosheng Sweetheart Network‘s problem awareness and research approach. This kind of research is related to his writing in English to do Chinese philosophy in the English world. However, writers believe that these main problems in ethics are broad, so the meaning of their research is also broad.

The question of contemporary virtue ethics must be discussed from contemporary standard ethics. In the field of contemporary standard ethics, “deontology” and “teleology” are a basic two-part division. Kant’s ethics is an important form of moral theory, and utilitarianism or consequence theory (the two have similar connotations in discussions of contemporary scholars) are important forms of goal theory. Compared with the two major rules of ethics formed by the Oriental Movement, namely Kantianism and utilitarianism (or consequences), modern ethics (regardless of Chinese and Western) are considered to have more characteristics of virtue ethics. However, contemporary virtue ethics is not a direct development of modern virtue ethics, but a kind of ethics theory developed to criticize after people realize the various problems existing in the rule ethics. The article “Modern Moral Philosophy” published by Oxford philosopher Anscom in 1958 is considered to be a rejuvenation of contemporary moral ethics. Through the development of nearly half a century, the moral theory of virtue has been called the most influential contemporary standard theory of ethics, which is the most influential. [3] At the same time, with the gradual maturity and greatness of moral theory, it has also been criticized from other ethics theory such as moral theory or utilitarianism. Huang Yong taught an important discussion in recent years that has been in the past decade, namely, choosing some criticisms or its own dilemmas encountered by contemporary Eastern virtue ethics, and from the questions that are difficult to answer from their (Oriental) thinking resources, to find out whether the situation can find a better foundation from the traditional resources of Confucianism.
